That's Fishsticks

This, my friends, is a Happy Hippo.  There’s a store near my apartment that sells these, and they are the most delicious things in the world.  The come filled with either chocolate or hazelnut cream, and are light and crisp.  I don’t know why they’re happy, since they are bound to be eaten, but I highly recommend them!

This is a pretty good description of Iowa’s political climate, if you’re looking for one, courtesy of the Real Time blog.

Reading is Good

I’m currently reading The Brooklyn Follies by Paul Auster.  It’s fabulous. I recommend it.

Blah

I’m not feeling very ambitious today.  Boo.

Tetris, but with states. I love me some geography.

Damn you, Carnitas burrito… now I’m totally going to hell :)
PS: borrowed this from another blog, don’t remember who, but if you’re out there, thanks for contributing to my overall happiness today.

It’s been a long time

I don’t know why I’m not motivated to write.  I used to write frequently and take great pleasure in it, but lately, I feel as though I have nothing to write about…

The truth is, I have several very interesting topics to write about, but I don’t really feel like saying anything about any of them.  I’m going to choose what’s foremost on  my mind and muse on it today.  Warning: The content below may be boring.

Today I’d like to write about cigarettes.   I’m trying to quit smoking cigarettes.  It’s been about two days since I’ve had one and I’m doing alright.  I haven’t murdered anyone yet, and so long as I keep myself busy I can probably avoid murdering anyone for the rest of the day.

I’ve smoke cigarettes for about 15 years.  To put that in perspective, I am 28 years old.  More than half of my life has been spent with a cigarette in my mouth.  A few years ago I made a relatively successful attempt at quitting, and went so far as to tell my mother that I had quit.  I have not, to this day, told her that the attempt ended in failure.  Now I want to tell her that I’m struggling and could use some support, but that would reveal that I’ve been full of shit all this time.  This is why lying is bad.  It occurs to me, on the topic of lying, that if the Ten Commandments had used rationales, they would have been more effective.  For instance:  Thou Shalt Not Lie, because thou wilst regret it when it later becomes a pain in thine ass.

So anyway, if you see me around, and I seem extra bitchy (more than one standard deviation from bitch baseline), be warned - I take no prisoners.  I can’t afford to keep paying $8 a day for a slow death from lung cancer, so it’s over… farewell cigarettes, it was fun while it lasted!

Follow-Through

So, as you can see, I’ve pretty much abandoned that 30-day business… apparently those topics are no longer relevant :)  I’ll get back to writing interesting an meaningful things later.  Here are some fun things I did today:

1. Finished listening to the audiobook version of The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman.  It was phenomenal

2. On my way to go eat a roast beef sandwich, I discovered that there is going to be a Christmas tree lot on Harvard Ave.  It will be much easier to get one there than it was to drive all the way to Arlington last year.

3. Saw the new Harry Potter, which I enjoyed.
